During the International Award ECA sessions throughout the year, you will learn a variety of skills which you will put into practice during your adventurous journey


In this session you will learn the importance of the correct equipment when venturing into the outdoors. You will solve theoretical problems with hypothetical equipment and understand what the key pieces of equipment are for an expedition and how to use and pack them.




In this session you will learn how to use a stove safely and the importance of nutrition and selecting the right foods for your expedition. You will have to plan a menu as a group and divide up carrying, cooking and washing up responsibilities.




In this session you will learn how to select a campsite and put up a tent.


Safety and First Aid

In this session you will learn the basics of first aid - particularly those skills pertinent to trekking outdoors. How will you deal with a casualty? How can a knowledge of basic safety prevent accidents?



Navigation & Map Reading

This session teaches basic map reading and 6-figure grid references. You will learn to recognise features on a map and locate particular landmarks.



Navigation & Bearings

This session teaches bearings and route planning.



Survival Skills and Camp Craft

In this session you will learn about how to deal with unexpected emergency situations and how to survive using only the most basic of tools, many of which can be found in the outdoors.
